Nearly New Uniform / Ski wear Sale

14 January 10-12 am Girls’ Prep Music Room (top floor)

A reminder of the next sale coming up the first Saturday after the children go back to school next term.

If you want to sell clothes and other games equipment (e.g. hockey sticks, tennis racquets etc.) then please go to here for full instructions. You keep 60% of the proceeds and the remaining 40% goes to the PA to raise funds for SHS events and extras for the children.  You can leave your items in ANY reception and they will be collected and given to us to sort out before the next sale.

We have had several requests to sell ski clothes and equipment at this Winter sale so please have a sort through your lofts and bring in any items which your children have grown out at the same time.  This is a new venture so it may take a while to build up stock but we need to start somewhere!

Items can be brought in on the day of the sale but if it is busy we can’t guarantee they can be sorted in time and they may need to be left until the next sale in April.

If you can offer any help to sort out the clothes before the sale on the afternoon of Friday 13 January or at the sale on Saturday 14 January then please contact Katrina us here.

Finally, often parents ask if there can be more sales than one a term. It does take a lot of time and effort to put on each sale so we have limited the number of sales which are held. However, if there are some parents (especially in the Prep schools) who would happily take on the responsibility of holding extra sales each term we would love to hear from you!

Meet your PA: Karen Saul – SHS Second Hand Uniform Sales

NAME: Karen Saul

PA ROLE: SHS Second Hand Uniform Sales

WHAT DOES YOUR ROLE INVOLVE: Collecting, sorting and selling uniform from Prep & Senior school; calculating and paying commission!

CHILDREN IN (school and year): Daughter in Year 8.

WHY YOU JOINED THE PA:  If you want Summer and Christmas fairs, second hand uniform sales, quiz nights and such, then someone has to volunteer to help run them, or they won’t happen. I joined the PA to ensure these types of events can be put on during my daughter’s time at Surbiton, for the girls and for the parents.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE PA: Still in my first year.

YOUR FAVOURITE PA EVENT AND WHY: I am actually quite fond of a good fair, whether it be Christmas or summer, however the Quiz night was also great fun last year!

Meet your PA: Louise Farrow – Secretary

NAME: Louise Farrow

PA ROLE: Secretary

WHAT DOES YOUR ROLE INVOLVE: Booking the PA meetings and writing the minutes of the meetings and general helping out

CHILDREN IN (school and year):  Daughter just gone to Senior School from the Girls Prep

WHY YOU JOINED THE PA: The first time it was because I wanted to be a part of the school community this time the it’s the same reason plus I enjoy interacting with a diverse set of people who have the same aims.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE PA: 4 years last time

YOUR FAVOURITE PA EVENT AND WHY: A tough one – I like the Quiz Night as it’s an opportunity for parents to connect – but the fairs are also opportunities for the whole school community!

Meet your PA: Renee Mardon – Boys’ Prep Liaison

NAME:  Renee Mardon

PA ROLE: Boys’ Prep Liaison

WHAT DOES YOUR ROLE INVOLVE:  My role involves being the point of contact between the PA  and reps for all year groups at the Boys’ Prep, Managing the internal stalls at the School fairs and facilitating the Meet the Head sessions.

CHILDREN IN (school and year):  Boys in Year 6 and 3

WHY YOU JOINED THE PA:  To meet parents and reps from other year groups.  To lend a hand with the fantastic fund raising work done by the PA for the benefit of our children across the school.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE PA:  This is my first year.

YOUR FAVOURITE PA EVENT AND WHY:  My favourite PA event has to be the Christmas Fair.   Our household looks forward to this event more than any other.   It is such a happy occasion for adults and children alike.  Lots of fun activities, carols, mince pies and mulled wine – a winning combination in my opinion!

Meet Your PA: Dave Tresidder – Web Site and Dads Camping Rep

NAME: Dave Tresidder

PA ROLE: Web Site and Dads Camping Repdt

WHAT DOES YOUR ROLE INVOLVE: Bit of a mixed bag. Firstly I ensure the PA web site is up to date and encourage new content to ensure the site is a useful resource for all parents. Sometimes I’m out of my depth in IT issues and then I spend my time trying to get someone to help. Dads camping is a large annual event for the PA and I am wing man to Chris James helping keep the event the huge success if has been for so many years.

CHILDREN IN (school and year): Daughter in Year 2.

WHY YOU JOINED THE PA: I’m not one to sit back and let others do the work then complain when thigs aren’t the way I would have done them. To make a difference and really become part of the school community, I think you have to step up and offer something back.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE PA: Still in my first year.

That’s easy, Dads Camping I suspect is the highlight of a lot of the prep school Dads. It’s such a great opportunity for the kids to let their hair down and spend some quality time with their Dads enjoying the fantastic grounds at Hinchley Wood.
